Haiti constantly deals with major sanitation issues that create a cycle
of illness and environmental contamination. One of our first
successful initiatives was the construction of composting toilets. Not
only do these toilets contain human waste and keep it out of the
environment, but the composting process itself also results in a
nutrient-rich fertilizer great for reforestation. Vwa Ayiti hires local
artists to paint each toilet, turning them into works of art that
foster community pride and dignity.
